After much parliamentary debate and outcry from the People of Gelephu Dunkhag, the Maukhola River finally gets a bridge. Around 200 people from near and far gathered yesterday to attend the inauguration of the Bridge graced by His Holiness the Lam Neten of Tali Dratshang. “It is a new hope an a new day for the public of Tsuzeygang” said Ap Khandu. Speaking to Shobnews, Umling Gup said the road will help improve people’s livelihood and drastically reduce the number of people washed by the river every year.
However Mr. Dhan Bahadur, a resident of Gelephu town condemned the action as unnecessary and total waste of public fund; in his defense he stated that the bridge will primarily be used for migrating cows and goats. “I can’t believe that our Government is wasting that much money just so that cows can cross the river.” He said. Mr. Sukh Bahadur, an Elephant keeper said “Bridge or no bridge, it doesn’t matter to me as I can always cross the river on my elephant.”
Despite mixed opinions, the bridge is here to stay for the good.
