In what was termed as ‘political incorrectness at its worst’, Tashigang Dzongkhag decided to Ban Shakira and World Cup because of her song Waka-Waka which was both vulgar and derogatory term in Sharshop. Tauchu, a local residence said the problem started since last world Cup when youths started singing Waka-Waka which elderly people found very offensive. Ap Nado, a resident of Bidung Gewog and a regular alcoholic said “Our youths are forsaking our values and rich culture. They are turning into Mutikpa”
Many concerns were raised by other people to avoid such stereotypical and cross language miss understandings. “Terms like how to ask a Sharshop girl to stand up in Dzongkha needs to be rethought.” Said Horgola. Some even raised that the English alphabet should not have the letter ‘J’ or the number ‘two’ as both are very derogatory term in Dzongkha.
Youths were not happy, they criticized the action as brutal, un-Bhutanese and the one that interferes with basic human rights.
ShobNews tried to contact Shakira on Twitter for her comments, we haven’t got any reply for now. Maybe she is taken into much sorrow.
