Nestled in the Himalayas, Bhutan was for centuries referred to as Lho-jong-men-jong -the land of medicinal herbs. As such Bhutan was always of a keen interest for the intruding Tibetans. Centuries passed and the practice was passed down to children from parents. Today, Bhutan again made a significant breakthrough in the field of Healthcare with its out of the box weight loss formula.
Meme Dophu, from Bartsham Gewog, Trashigang was the mastermind behind the revolutionary discovery. Speaking to Shob News Meme Dophu said that the main reason for obesity was because of the Tsilu-Drey (fatty demon). “The first step is to get rid of the demon by tying the patient in a sack and hanging over fireplace and hitting the patient with firewood for three consecutive days. After that, we shouldn’t feed the the patient for one month. This way we get rid of Tsilu-Drey and thereby weight loss is a very simple solution.” He said. “Starvation is key to getting thin.” He added.
Scientists from near and far who visited Meme Dophu pointed out that while his discoveries were truly ground breaking, however few small side effects like malnutrition, permanent blindness or death due to starvation is worth noting.
In recognition to his discovery, the Ministry of Health awarded Meme Dophu a certificate of recognition. They said it was given in order to encourage our traditional medicine practice. Meme Dophu said the certificate was useful for him to roll biri.
